Submitting widgets should be painless and relatively straightforward. Below are the steps you should follow to add your widget to bpwidgets.com.
- If you don’t have an account, create one.
- Login, and select the “Add Widget” button.
- On the Add Widget form, we’ll ask for the widget name (this should be the name listed with Bluepulse), the widget keyword (as listed with Bluepulse), and the widget description (up to 1000 characters).
- You can also upload widget icons, which are used in result tables and detail pages. The large icon should be 44×44 pixels, and the small should be 15×15 pixels. These might sound familiar as the same dimensions as the icons you already submitted to Bluepulse. You don’t need to submit icons, but I’d recommend it, and I’d recommend you submit the proper size icons to avoid any scaling issues.
- You can optionally enter your full name, company name, and URL. If you provide them, they will be applied to every widget you submit, and will be displayed on your widgets’ detail pages.
After submitting your widget, you’ll be given the opportunity to classify it:
- You can select a Bluepulse category. This should be the category where your widget can be found via the bluepulse client or bluepulse.com.
- You can select a BP-Widgets category. This is where your widget will appear in our taxonomy. You don’t need to select a category, but I’d recommend it, as it will make your widget easier to find.
- Finally, you can add tags that describe your widget.
Some gotchas to keep in mind:
- Developers must submit their own widgets. When you submit a widget, it is “owned” by you at bpwidgets.com. Please do not submit any widgets for which you don’t have intellectual property rights.
- Your name, company, and URL are applied to all widgets that you submit.
- Your e-mail address will not be made available to bpwidgets.com users. If you would like to make it available, enter it in your widget’s description field.
- Widgets are not immediately released in the wild. They are first added to an approval queue where they are reviewed. Right now, it’s just me doing the reviewing, but I doubt that they’ll sit there for more than a day before I get a chance to look at them.

To submit a widget, you first need to create an account. To comment on or rate a widget, you first need an account.
We want to make your contributions as simple as possible, but accounts are required to help prevent things like ballot box stuffing. We’re not very rigorous with account verification, but we will review entries, and make adjustments as necessary.
To create your account, select a username and password. This can be the same as your Bluepulse username, but I wouldn’t recommend using the same password for both services.
Aside from that, we’ll need a valid e-mail address. We won’t spam you, or sell or share your e-mail address, but we do need to verify that an identity is associated with your account, and if you ever forget your password, this is where we’ll mail it.

There are quite a few ways to find widgets via bpwidgets.com. Here are the primary ones:
- You will find widgets via the Home page and the Find Widgets page.
- You can view widgets by category on the BP-Widgets home page. These are not Bluepulse categories, but rather a traditional taxonomy for classifying information. The home page will list each category, and up to five random widgets in each category. Click a widget name to view details, or a category name to view all widgets in that category. The category list is generated every 12 hours.
- Featured widgets are also listed on the home page. Several random, featured widgets will be listed here. This list is generated every 12 hours.
- Via Find Widgets, you can view the most popular widgets: those widgets that have received the most ratings since they’ve been added to bpwidgets.com.
- Via Find Widgets, you can view the most active widgets: those widgets that have received the most ratings recently.
- Via Find Widgets, you can view the highest-ranked widgets: those widgets that have received the highest average rating since they’ve been added to bpwidgets. The minimum number of ratings required to make this list is periodically increased.
- Via Find Widgets, you can view the latest widgets: those widgets that have been added to bpwidgets.com most recently.
- You can perform a search for widgets via Find Widgets. The search will automatically suggest matching entries as you type in your query.
- You can use the tag cloud on the Find Widgets page. The tag cloud lists the most popular tags used to describe widgets at bpwidgets.com. Click a tag name to view all of the widgets tagged with it. The larger the tag, the more widgets that have been tagged with that name.
- You can also use the tag browser via Find Widgets. By selecting a tag letter, all tags with that first initial letter will be displayed. You can then click a tag name to view all widgets tagged with that name.
- Know of a widget that’s not listed at bpwidgets.com? If it’s a recent entry (within the past day or so), it might not have been released from the approval queue yet. It’s also possible that the developer hasn’t listed the widget on bpwidgets.com. We require the widget owners to submit their widgets, rather than allowing third-party submissions. Let the developer know that you’d like to see them listed.

Commenting on and rating widgets helps other BP-Widget users benefit from your experience using a widget. Both are straightforward, and are very similar to other systems you’ve run across.
- To comment or rate, you must be logged in.
- If you select the “Remember Me” option, we’ll set a cookie on your PC, and we’ll automatically log you in each time you visit bpwidgets.com. You can disable this feature by clicking the “Logoff” link in the upper right hand corner.
- To be logged in, obviously you need an account.
- To comment or rate, find a widget using any of the find tools, and open a widget’s detail page.
- To rate a widget, click the number of stars you would like to give the widget.
- To comment, scroll to the bottom of the details page and add your comments.
- You can comment multiple times per widget, but you can only rate each widget once.
- Please keep comments on-topic and constructive.

You can install and manage widgets either via your mobile phone, or via a PC web browser. If you’re new to using applications on your cell phone, I’d recommend installing them via the PC control panel.
Via a PC
- Head to www.bluepulse.com , login to your account, and click the “Widgets” tab.
- Click the “Add Widgets” link at the top of the page.
- Either enter a widget’s keyword, or select a category of widgets to view.
- On the resulting page, tick the checkboxes next to each widget you would like to add, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click “add.”
